About the Program

The ASU BFA Summer Dance Intensive, Cultivating Dance Artistry & Technique (CDAT), is a two-week, pre-professional program for aspiring dancers ages 12-21. This immersive dance experience will provide in-depth training in classical ballet, pointe, modern dance, jazz, African dance, and more, helping students enhance their technical skills, artistry, and confidence.

  • Dates: July 1-13, 2025

  • Location: Tullibody Fine Arts Complex, Alabama State University

  • Ages: 12-21 (Special classes for ages 12-14)

  • Time: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

  • Price: $675 (Includes lunch and housing)

  • Mandatory for Freshman BFA Dance Majors & Minors

  • Scholarships Available: $75 discount via IABD and Alabama Dance Festival

Curriculum & Schedule

Students will receive a structured and intensive schedule designed to enhance their skills and prepare them for professional-level training.

  • Morning Sessions:

    • Ballet, Modern, African Dance

    • Stretch & Conditioning

    • Dance History

  • Afternoon Sessions:

    • Repertoire, Jazz, Hip-Hop

    • Performance Preparation

End of Program Showcase:
The program will culminate in a fully-produced performance open to the public, showcasing the skills and artistry developed during the intensive.

Mission & Vision

The mission of the ASU BFA Summer Dance Intensive is to foster creativity, self-expression, and artistic growth in young dancers. Through various dance styles and comprehensive training, participants will gain valuable performance skills, while cultivating an understanding of dance history and its relevance in the modern world.

 

The program aims to:

  • Enhance technical ability across multiple dance genres

  • Build self-confidence and teamwork

  • Provide a performance opportunity in a professional setting

  • Serve as a recruitment tool for future BFA Dance students

  • Prepare students for a future in dance performance and education
