Auditions are held for those interested in pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Major or Minor, as well as those seeking a dance scholarship. Applicants must be admitted to ASU in addition to the BFA Dance Program.
Online Audition
The BFA Dance Program at ASU accepts online audition submissions year-round; however, if you are interested in receiving a scholarship, it is highly recommended that you submit your online audition as soon as possible. In-Person Audition Dates and Location:
The ASU BFA Dance Program will hold two in-person auditions for Fall 2024-2025:

October 19, 2024, at 10:00 am (Registration begins at 9:30 am)

March 20, 2025, at 10:00 am
Both auditions will take place in the Debriah Scott Thomas Dance Studio in the Tullibody Fine Arts Building located at 845 S Jackson St, Montgomery, AL 36104. Please note that while the scheduled end time for the audition is 3:00 pm, it may conclude earlier.
ASU BFA Program Audition Registration Fall 2024-2025: Application Requirements
To apply for the ASU BFA Dance Program, applicants must complete the audition registration process via the provided Google Form.
Application Form Requirements:

Personal Information: Applicants must fill in their full name, date of birth, gender, age, address, phone number, and email address.

Education Information: Applicants should provide details about their current education level (High School, Community College, etc.), high school or college GPA, and graduation year.

Dance Background: Applicants must outline any previous dance training, explain how they heard about the ASU BFA Dance Program, and share their reasons for wanting to study dance in the program. They should also describe what they hope to achieve by studying dance at ASU.

University Application Status: Indicate if they have applied to and been accepted by Alabama State University.

Scholarship Interest: Confirm if they are interested in applying for a BFA Dance Program Scholarship.
Parent/Guardian Information:
Applicants need to provide the name, address, phone number, and email address of a parent or guardian.
Audition Requirements:

Dance Solo Submission: Upload a 1-minute dance solo (either Ballet or Modern) that showcases the applicant's technique.

Photos and Resume: Upload a dance body shot, a headshot, and a dance resume.

Ballet Audition: Applicants must submit a video demonstrating barre and center work. This should include barre exercises (plié, tendu, rond de jambe, etc.), center work (adagio, pirouettes, petite and grand allégro), and a classical variation (no longer than two minutes). The video should be no longer than 10 minutes.

Attire: Black leotard, skin-toned tights, ballet slippers (skin-toned) or pointe shoes, hair in a bun, and makeup is required.

Modern Audition: Submit a recent video recording of a maximum of 8 minutes demonstrating warm-up exercises (floor work, standing exercises, core work), center work (jumping sequences), and a 2-minute modern dance solo.

Attire: Black leotard, black tights, no coverage of feet, hair in a bun, and makeup is required.

Recommendation Letters:
Applicants are required to provide the names, email addresses, and phone numbers of two individuals who can provide recommendations on their behalf as a student and dancer.
Applicant Acknowledgement:
Applicants must acknowledge that admission to the BFA Dance Program requires a separate application and acceptance to Alabama State University to enroll as a Dance Major or Minor.
